* The bibliophile printing house Samson Press existed from 1930 to 1967, one of the few run by women. This beautiful book contains, in addition to an original poem by H.J.C. Grierson, poems translated into English by him by J.M. de Héredia, P.C. Hooft, Joost van den Vondel, and three translated poems by P.C. Boutens: ‘The House of Dreams’, ‘Love’s Hour’, and ‘The Morning Nightingale’. Rijkse, Boutens 4.3.

Toni Savage (1929-1994) started out as an opera singer but later became the central figure in the feverish marginal printing business in Leicester and the surrounding area, which also produced many charming little magazines, poetry broadsides and posters. Rigby Graham, with his expressive, anecdotal style, was a regular illustrator.

* Deluxe edition of the French translation of Drift (1930), Hanley’s first novel, set among the Irish in Liverpool. The protagonist is a working boy who reads Zola and Joyce – like James Hanley himself had been! One of only twenty copies on quality paper, in Corrêa’s collection ‘Le Chemin de la Vie’ directed by Maurice Nadeau, who also included works by Himes, Lowry and Miller. With a 4-page preface by Nadeau (who died in 2013, 102 years old).

8. LECKY, William Edward Hartpole Autograph signed letter (ALS) to an admirer, dated “Xmas day. 1891.” 6 lines on paper printed “38, Onslow Gardens, S.W.”. Small trace of glue on verso, from an album or an envelope.

* Lecky has “much pleasure in sending you my autograph”. He hopes “that you may work with so much perserverance and success that Pugh may some day ask for yours”. William Hartpole Lecky (1838-1903) was an Irish historian and politician, married to Elisabeth van Dedem, herself a historian, and also lady-in-waiting of Queen Sophie of the Netherlands.

De wijze dwazen (The Wise Fools) is a novel set in Denmark, written under a Danish pseudonym by a Dutch author. It (according to the reviews) is striking for its many fresh, pointed observations, but alienates with its abundance of quotations from great writers, from Shakespeare to Verlaine and Tolstoy.

17. (EXLIBRIS). RINDHOLT, Svend Kristen Rasmussens personlige exlibris. (Entirely handwritten book with nice binding). Copenhagen, self-‘published’, 1959-1960. Three-quarter morocco with marbled boards and endpapers. 62 deckle-edged leaves of handmade paper written on one side in blue ink, and illustrated with many pasted-in bookplates (partly erotic) and some photos from Rasmussen’s library. With a bookplate drawn by hand in ink by H.C.B. = Barenhold. According to the title page written in three copies; this is no. 1 with a bookplate by Kristen Rasmussen on the inside upper cover. 4 loose bookplates. Spine faded, boards possibly slightly browned.

* Inserted is a three-page handwritten letter in Danish from Svend Rindholt to ‘Kare Kristen [Rasmussen]’, dated 7/2 1960. In 1970 a printed book by Rindholt about collector Rasmussen’s personal bookplates was published. Strikingly beautiful book binding. Kristen Rasmussen (1901-1984) was a great Danish collector and enthusiast of bookplates. A most attractive specially made personal book – maybe one can call it a book by an artist roué for a roué collector, this in a time when erotica were still frowned on.

Album met decoratieve, glimmende platten en leren rug. 37 x 20 cm. Met 57 originele (amateur)foto’s van een reis via Duitsland en Denemarken naar Zweden en terug, gemaakt door Caroline Feikema (1879-1971). Met precieze beschrijving en datering (6 juli-31 juli 1901). Foto’s alle zelfgemaakt in het formaat 8 x 11 cm, met allerlei technische foutjes (bewogen, vlekjes, grauwsluiers, dubbeldruk), gaaf en in goede staat. Genummerd 1-63, zes foto’s van de lijst ontbreken.

Mit zusätzlichem Exemplar von Teil 9. Ohne den Atlas. Einbände berieben bei den Teilen 1, 7 und 9. Mit Stempeln und Namen aus dem frühen 19. Jahrhundert. Innen in ausgezeichnetem Zustand.

* Der Text des genialen Philosophen und Schriftstellers Georg Christoph Lichtenberg (1742-1799) ist vollständig, aber der Atlas mit den verkleinerten Reproduktionen von Hogarths Kupferstichen von Ernst Ludwig Riepenhausen fehlt, wie oft (es handelt sich um einen stämmigen Folioband, während die Textbücher klein sind).
Dieses Set wurde (vor langer Zeit) aus drei verschiedenen Sets zusammengestellt, alle aus Dänemark. Die ersten sechs Teile sind separat in goldgepunktetem Kalbsleder mit schwarz-grau marmoriertem Papier und grünen Rückenetiketten gebunden. Alle diese haben die Unterschrift des Besitzers [Graf] ‘Bille-Brahe’ und einen Hvedholm-Stempel, von dem Schloss im Süden der Insel Fünen, das die Familie Bille-Brahe besaß.
Teil 7 (und der Doppelteil 9) tragen braun-grün-rot marmoriertes Papier und einen Stempel ‘Tilhører Grevskabet Christiansholm’ (=’zur Grafschaft Christiansholm gehörend’, jetzt Schloss Aalholm auf Lolland, höchstwahrscheinlich von Graf Frederik Christian Raben gekauft). Teil 8-12 und 13-14 wurden gebunden in zwei etwas neueren Halbkalbsledereinbänden mit dunkelgrau marmoriertem Papier und hellblauen Rückentickets, dabei alle Schnitten rot gefärbt, mit den Grevskabet Christiansholm-Marken. Diese letzten sieben Teile 8-14 sind nicht als solche gekennzeichnete Nachdrucke mit genau demselben Text (und Jahreszahlen auf den Titelseiten), aber einem anderen Layout, sodass weniger Seiten benötigt wurden. == Fühlen Sie sich frei, um weitere Informationen zu bitten.
